Fascia Board in Northwest Arkansas

Fascia is the board running along the roof edge that covers the openings between the rafters, and it is what your gutter hangers fasten into. Along with the soffit, it closes off the attic. When the fascia is solid, the gutter holds its pitch through a full season of rain and leaves. When it rots, hangers pull out and the run sags.

Often you cannot, at least not without taking the gutter down. But if water has been running between the gutter and the fascia for a while, rot is very likely. Peeling paint, staining behind the gutter and a run that sags between hangers are the clues. We check the fascia on every install and repair so the hangers have solid wood to hold.

It depends on how far the damage goes. If the board is sound, an aluminum fascia wrap, which comes in multiple sizes, protects it and matches the trim. If it is rotted, damaged or missing, we replace the fascia completely and reinstall the gutter with new hangers. We tell you which one you need once we see the wood.

Yes, with roof straps. The straps attach to a hidden hanger inside the gutter and secure to the roof, usually on top of the shingles, because lifting older shingles can break them. It is strong, but not as strong or as clean-looking as hanging on fascia. We do not recommend straps on slate, tile or cedar shingle roofs.

Yes. We install perforated vinyl soffit, the layer that runs from the bottom of the fascia back to the wall. Soffit and fascia together protect the rafters from weather and let air move through the vents, which keeps attic temperatures even. If your soffit needs replacing or your home never had any, we can add it.

Because our weather keeps it wet. Heavy spring downpours overflow clogged gutters onto the board, and packed oak and hickory leaves hold moisture against the wood for weeks. Then winter ice adds weight, and a rotted board cannot properly support a gutter built to carry it. Fixing the board is what keeps a new gutter on the house.
